Panel Discussion
Talking about Writing
at Tanzquartier Wien Studio, Vienna
June 22, 2018
"Within the scope of the lab Talking about Writing with Franz Anton Cramer, eight authors and journalists negotiate their positions, aspirations and responsibilities in writing on dance and performance. Concluding the lab, the participants will be presenting the core results and theses, they will read from texts and debate with everyone interested."
"Writing about dance is more than writing a review. In that sense, TQW’s Magazine initiative is not a journalistic counter-public but a reaction to the various expectations held by artists, authors, scholars and readers relating to dance coverage, which cannot be met by way of mere review journalism. The lab enquires into the politics of writing and the way in which we use criteria, viewing habits, prejudices, the failure to understand, power. Is non-coercive criticism possible and desirable? Which forms of writing do we enjoy reading? Which standpoints can we take in writing? Can these be changed? Are we aware of how we write?
The lab takes the experiences gained in the first months of the present season into account. The participants Jette Büchsenschütz, Christoph Chwatal, Theresa Luise Gindlstrasser, Christian Keller, Anna Kromer, Gianna Virginia Prein, Sara Schausberger and Michael Franz Woels will work on texts of their own, discuss texts written by colleagues and ponder over future models of writing."
